The Argyle String Orchestra Summer Concert

  • St Luke's Church Hatfield Road Bath, England, BA2 2BD United Kingdom (map)

The Argyle welcomes wind and horn playing friends for a summer celebration of the elegance of Viennese classicism. At the heart of the programme sit two works showcasing some of Mozart's finest melodies - the joy of Exsultate Jubilate, and the sweeping lyricism of his Piano Concerto #23 featuring outstanding soloist Nicola Meecham ("Excellent… Meecham is completely inside the music" International Record Review). These works are contrasted by American 20th Century composer Florence Price's Andante Moderato - adapted from her String Quartet #1, its flowing style oozes with luscious harmonies. The programme culminates in Schubert's Symphony #5; a masterful homage to his stylistic forefathers Mozart and Beethoven, laced with the dramatic touches that would define Schubert's later works.

Please note that seating is unreserved.

As usual teas, coffee and delicious homemade cakes will be available during the interval.
